Brain infection and abscesses

There are few symptoms that can require Neurosurgical interventions when it comes to brain infections, such as: a brain abscess that causing pressure effects on the brain or significant brain swelling, a collection of the pus at the subdural space(subdural empyma) or between the meninges and the bone(epidural abscess). 

Sometimes small fenestration (burr hole) and aspiration of the pus, using brain navigation technology is minimally invasive and achieve the target of surgery. 

The key stone in management is identifying the causative organism and appropriate antibiotic cover under the supervision of microbiology team.
